Flower Meanings

This unusually warm weather has gotten me interested flowers again, which I am enamored with during the summertime. Although we don’t have a proper garden, we do put up hanging flower baskets that serve as focal points in our otherwise color-challanged backyard. But even as these buds were long dead, I had flowers on my mind, and decided to wear a aqua top with pink and yellow flowers and khaki shorts that I wasn’t even cold in when I went outside! Then I looked up flower meanings, a practice popular in the Victorian days between gentry. Each flower has a specific meaning, and when people sent bouquet they would have a specific well wish in mind. Here is a list of the bloom definitions:

Obviously I wondered what azaleas could mean for me; abundance. Abundance of posts or words? I know I have an abundance of imagination. This list made me wonder who had thought this concept up in the first place. A scientist who knew all of the uses and lethality of flowers and then transferred them into qualities? Or someone with a lot of imagination who based their impressions of the look of the blooms? Does your favorite flower relate to your personality? Tell me in comments! On a different track, my New Year’s resolution is to try new things. Hopefully that will result in interesting posts when I try new ways to blog or try new things that I then blog about. What is your resolution? With abundant happiness, Marjorie

What a wonder — to think of new life now when life is brimming under the surface out of our everyday sight. Thank you for your post today!

  2. I particularly like roses, and the rose flower is edible and can be used as a garnish or in salads.
